Filming for BodyBalance | The Journey to Becoming Certified

Monday night, I filmed for BodyBalance. Needless to say, it was pretty eventful but let’s start from the beginning.

First, what is BodyBalance? BodyBalance is a pre-choreographed yoga based fitness class that blends yoga moves, Tai Chi, and Pilates. There’s a process to becoming an instructor, which you can learn more about here. Long story short, to become certified you must go through a weekend training (virtual/in person) and then film yourself teaching in front of a class.

The morning of filming, I was a nervous WRECK (I’m starting to feel like this is a common theme of mine). Normally, I don’t get nervous teaching/talking in front of people; however shove a camera in my face – game over!

I obsessed about filming all day – it was to the point where I thought about pushing it back completely. However, I knew I was prepared and had to trust the practice I put in was enough to get me through.

Nighttime came and the countdown officially began. Before filming for BodyBalance, I had to teach BodyCombat (which I will delve into in a different post). My insanely crazy self decided to choose the most lethal tracks that I surely regretted afterwards – I mean I taught a jam packed 58 min class.

After BodyCombat, I had to rush downstairs to set up for filming. If I had one word to describe how I felt: FRAZZLED. I was a hot A%$ mess drenched in sweat and hair an absolute catastrophe (you just had to be there).

I had 5 minutes to get it together but anxiety started kicking in. The music starts and internally I’m thinking a million thoughts at once. And then the worst thing that could possibly happen during filming happened: my phone stops recording during track 2 (shout out to Steve for catching it). So I had to start from the beginning using my mom’s phone (shout out to momma dukes for the constant support).

To be honest, I’m so lucky for that mishap – it allowed for my nerves to subside and determination take over to get through filming. By the end, I was so relieved to finish and the second take did what needed to be done. I was so proud, I wanted to cry because this program is so out of my wheelhouse.

Now, is probably the hardest part – waiting for feedback and finding out whether I passed, which can take up to 2 weeks. Until then, check out some still shots I captured from filming.

Big thanks to everyone who came out to support or wished me well during filming! Lisa, you’re a gem for letting me film during your class slot! Dr. D – I could hear your voice the entire time – thank you for being an incredible trainer and friend. Lastly, Gabby (my sister) thanks for living rent free in my head about pointing my toes during floating half moon and falling star.
